(Columbus, Oh Apr 24) Motorkars and it race team came away from their first USTCC race of the 2006 season with a huge win in front of their home crowd. "We were running a development program all weekend, we knew we would be quick in the race" said returning Crew Cheif Matt Markowicz. He continued "With the new surface at Mid-Ohio, we tuned our car for the developing track not just the conditions at hand". The team pulled together well throughout the weekend and got the job done when it counted most. Teamwork, friendship, and fun are core values of the Motorkars team and this particular weekend represented a high-water mark in each regard. Despite some teething issues with the 2006 spec Audi A4 1.8t quattro early on during the weekend and Driver Jeff Mishtawy battling the flu, every hurdle was overcome and a great result followed.
Jeff was able to qualify in P2, just .007 seconds (7 one thousandths!!) behind the BMW of Toby Grahovec and .2 seconds ahead of Dino Hamilton's Neon SRT4. With a very tight battle for pole position over, the team put together a great race setup for Jeff. The Motorkars crew was delighted as the cars lined up for the standing start, hoping to use the Audi's Quattro system to lead into the first turn. Unfortunately, Jeff experienced a clutch issue as the green flag flew and struggled to get away. Now in last place, Jeff and the team's mission was clear and was going to be difficult. After spending several laps working through all of the USTCC cars, Mishtawy was able to pass Grahovec for second. Then a lap later Jeff put a pass on Hamilton for the lead and set about getting to the checkered flag first. "It was a thrilling race for me as a driver. I had to push very hard to get this result today and my team deserves all of the credit. The Motorkars guys did a fabulous job indeed!" said Jeff Mishtawy. After Jeff had gotten around Grahovec and Hamilton, the two collided and brought out a full-course yellow until the debris could be cleared. "I was quite happy with the caution period. We had run hard to get into the lead passing the entire field cleanly and we needed time to cool down." said Mishtawy. From that point forward, Jeff and the Motorkars team did not put a wheel wrong and brought home the victory.
Motorkars is very proud to introduce APR (www.goapr.com) as a new sponsor for their Audi A4 1.8t quattro. "APR brought our engine performance to new levels this season. The people, the dedication, and their facility is unmatched. Today's win is a direct result of APR's innovative solutions to our problems. I cannot express enough our gratitude" said Jeff. Matt Markowicz (Crew Cheif) went on to say "Not only the power that APR was able to tune in, but smoothness and driveability were also fantastic". Motorkars would also like to thank Stasis Engineering (www.stasisengineering.com), Hankook Tires, Snap-On Tools, Castrol, Battery Express, and Stoptech Brakes.
