January 17th, 2006/Richmond, Ca. - The Hankook U.S. Touring Car Championship (USTCC) announced today that the winner of the 2006 Racetech Seats USTCC Promotional Award is the MBO Motorsports Racing Team. The Racetech Seats USTCC Promotional Award is the series' highest non-racing recognition award, given to the driver, individual and/or team for their promotional contributions on and off the track towards the overall exposure and success of the series. The award that began in 2005 is presented exclusively by Racetech Seats (www.racetechseatsna.com), the leading manufacturer of composite race seats & safety harnesses from New Zealand for the North American market. Racetech Seats and safety equipment products are the fastest selling and most recommended brand by top race car engineers and drivers in the world’s top racing series. Along with the recognition, the MBO team will also receive a pre-selected Racetech seat. The head restraint, HANS compatible, seat is FIA homologated to 8855-1999 standards. It is made of fabric covered with a gloss gel coat fiberglass shell. Thick foam padded head restraint for best possible support. Removable cushions are placed from mid back to lower thighs. The seat comes in black fabric with gray suede wear patches and a black gel coating. The seat is valued at $1099.00.
Racetech Seats together with USTCC is proud to award the 2nd Annual Racetech USTCC Promotional Award to the Two Car tandem of MBO Motorsports. The team consists of Pete Bovenberg (#94 Autosourcemotoring.com/PPG/MBO Motorsports Honda Civic) who is a long time veteran of USTCC along with veteran teammate Curt Simmons (#49 Cornwell Tools/Sunnyvale Dodge/MBO Motorsports Dodge SRT-4) were not only a regular fixture or contender for the podium throughout the entire 2006 USTCC Season, but also became the un-official representatives and promotional ambassadors for the series. The team fielded two race cars for the entire 2006 USTCC season and was always readily available for fans at each of the events’ autograph sessions, especially in 2006 season’s largest events, A1-GP 2006 USA Round, Champ Car’s G.I. Joe’s Grand Prix of Portland and ALMS Portland Grand Prix presented by Les Schwab.
Through 2006, the MBO Motorsports Racing Team started their promotional contributions starting with displaying three MBO prepared cars at the 2006 San Jose International Auto Show on February of last year.
The #49 Cornwell Tools/MBO Dodge SRT-4 of Simmons is currently displayed and is a regular fixture at the Sunnyvale Dodge showroom when the car is not on the track. And twice in 2006, Bovenberg’s famous red and yellow hot wheels-like graphics #94 Honda Civic was in display at the Capitol Honda showrooms.
The Dodge SRT-4 was displayed at the Racetech/Kaminari booth of this past year’s 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and the MBO Motorsports Racing Team participated in the 2006 Industry Race Day at Buttonwillow Raceway in Buttonwillow, California last November.
