Infineon Raceway, nestled in the Sonoma Hills, has been a favorite of West Coast racers for 40 years. During Saturday’s practice race on Infineon’s 2.52 mile track, Rojas piloted Team Cobalt California’s 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged Car No. 48 to an outstanding 1.54.995 lap time.
A mishap later in the practice session warranted immediate repairs to the Cobalt.
"We had an on- track incident with some slower classed traffic during practice, Rojas said, “Considerable damage to the left front of the Chevy caused us to chase the set-up on the car for the rest of the weekend. The team did a tremendous job getting 48 back on the track; I can't thank them enough for their efforts. I only wish I could have placed better for the team."
Rojas took the green flag during Sunday’s race utilizing his qualifying position to weave through traffic.
“It was good to see the Cobalt back on the track”, team owner Thomas Lepper said, “It took a pretty good hit on Saturday. The team worked into the evening and Sunday morning so that the Cobalt would be ready for qualifying”.
The checkered flag waved Rojas into a fifth place finish.
Rojas’ accumulation of 175 points set Rojas in third place in the ongoing quest for the 2008 championship with a 20-point lead over the forth place position of Pete Bovenberg.
USTCC is sanctioned by National Auto Sports Association (NASA). The next USTCC race will be held at Gateway Raceway, in Madison, Illinois April 27, 2008. Rojas’ next USTCC race will be Thunderhill Raceway Park, in Willows, California on May 4, 2008.
Rojas would like to welcome two new associate sponsors to the USTCC partner line-up: MOLECULE Nomex Care Products and GoPro Hero Digital Cameras.
"It's always nice to have new series sponsors come on board”, Rojas said, “MOLECULE and GoPro are both terrific motorsports products and we appreciate their support and interest in the USTCC series."
Returning as established sponsors are Jim Russell Racing Schools and F1 Development.
