Willows, CA. - Michael McColligan, driving the #36 Mazdatrix/Racing Beat Mazda RX8 won the Molecule Race Smart, Keep It Clean Move of the Race Award for his Rocket Standing Start at Round 3 of the Nitto Tire United States Touring Car Championship at Thunderhill Raceway on May 4, 2008. “The Green Flag dropped much quicker than expected but my Crew Chief and I were ready, and the RX8 launched awesome as usual”, mentioned McColligan on his start that vaulted him from 6th to 5th before the first turn. The weekend started off with McColligan and the MC Racing Team once again learning another new track configuration while running on the Nitto Tires for the first time. McColligan steadily improved running his fastest times of the weekend in second qualifying which placed him on the outside of third row for the race. After the start, McColligan settled into his race pace finishing just off the podium in 4th. “A great result for the Team, as usual the RX8 was fast and reliable” summed up McColligan on his weekend.
McColligan was the highest placing car running on Konig Wheels which placed him first in the Konig Cup standings.
It is back to work as the MC Racing Team prepares for round 4 of the USTCC June 28-29 at Infineon Raceway.
