Pete Bovenberg wins by six hundreths of a second at Infineon Raceway

By Reza Arsham

June 12, 2011, Sonoma, CA -- Pete Bovenberg in the #94 MBO Motorsports/Rota Wheels Honda Civic Si beat out the two time champion Dave Brown driving the #12 Hawk Brakes/San Rafael Mitubishi Ralliart for first place in the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) round four at Infineon Raceway. Brown was trading positions with Bovenberg for many laps when Bovenberg made the final position exchange into the last turn. From there it was a drag race which was won by six hundreths of a second by Bovenberg. About one and a half minutes behind all of this action was the third place finisher Larry Bani driving a very difficult race in the #5 Gogogear.com/UTI BMW M3. Bani was having handling issues dealing with a broken anti roll bar mount since lap four but with support from his team he soldiered on to collect as many valuable points as possible.

In the early stages of the race the top four pulled away from everyone else and started to trade positions lap after lap. Leading the pack was Brandon Kraus in the #9 Roger Kraus Racing/DW Pumps Honda Prelude followed by Brown, Bovernberg, and Curt Simmons in the #49 MBO Motorsports/Stevens Creek Dodge SRT-4. Kraus was put to a halt by transmission problems and Simmons had a mechanical failure. That left Brown and Bovenberg to fight for maximum points.

This victory took Bovenberg from sixth place to first place in driver championship points. Second place in the driver championship points is Bani who has been the Wera Tools Top Rookie in every race so far. Bani has also been given many of Wera Tools' best products at the end of each race.
