(March 1, 2012 – Englewood, CO) K-PAX Racing / 3R Racing / Autoparts Warehouse will bring one of their 2011 Volvo C30s to the 2012 Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC).
Following a highly successful 2011 race season in the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Series, K-PAX Racing / 3R Racing have partnered with Autoparts Warehouse to contest the 2012 USTCC with an up-and-coming new driver Robert Thorne at the wheel. Starting at an early age, Robert Thorne has come up through the ranks of the World Karting Association Championship, Formula BMW USA Experience, Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and SCCA Solo autocross events. In 2011, Robert was the National Champion in the SCCA Solo Street Touring R class competing in a 2008 Honda S2000 CR.
The K-PAX Racing Volvo C30 that Robert will be driving was prepared by 3R Auto/Racing at the beginning of 2011 in only 60-days! This rigorous schedule didn’t allow for any pre-season testing thus leaving testing and development to be performed at the track during the race events. The Volvo C30 was able to win in just its 4th race of the World Challenge season at Miller Motorsports Park. All together, the two K-PAX Racing Volvo C30s went on to grab six pole positions and four more race wins, including a 1-2 finish at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course.
Robert Thorne will drive the Volvo C30 in all seven scheduled West coast USTCC races for the 2012 season. “We believe this will be the first Volvo to race in the USTCC series and we look forward to bringing Volvo race cars to a new group of auto racing fans around the country,” said 3R’s Bob Raub. K-PAX Racing’s second Volvo C30 is currently on the auto show circuit. Upon its return K-PAX and 3R Racing will be exploring running a second driver in the 2012 seasons remaining USTCC races.
