Willows, CA (April 13, 2013) -- Bob Bradfield won the right to start in first place for Sunday’s season opener of the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. Starting in second place will be Doug Makishima who was driving the TNI Racing / PTech BMW M3. Third place will belong to multiple USTCC Champion, Dave Brown who drove the Competition Clutch/Hawk Brake BMW M3.
Life seemed simple for Brad McClure as he started the Saturday qualifying race for the top five qualifiers to see who would start on pole position. McClure was driving the BTM Motorwerks / GoGoGear.com /UTI BMW M3 and was leading the early stages of the race. A suspension problem forced McClure to pit early and give up the position. That gave the lead to Tim Barber who was driving the TNI Racing/AmCan Collision Center Mazdaspeed 3. Barber lead the race until a broken axle sidelined him and handed the race lead to teammate Bradfield. Bradfield has Makishima all over him but managed to edge out a win by 0.105 seconds.
Bradfield was very excited to score his first pole in his first USTCC race. “It is nice to be part of a great team such as TNI Racing. I have raced Mazdas since 1985 when I started out with Formula Mazda followed by a Mazda RX7 and now a Mazdaspeed 3. I love driving them all,” stated Bradfield after the race.
The Sunday main race will be a standing start format and the new season has shown that anything could happen.
