Napa, CA - The team of Gary Sheehan and Ali Arsham head into the last race of the season in the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Thunderhill Raceway’s new five mile course with a 35 point lead over their nearest competitor. The pair hope that the margin is enough for them to secure a championship.
The Sheehan/Arsham team started the season with a fourth place finish but they followed it up with three wins in a row in the GoGoGear.com/UTI/Powerbuilt Tools Hyundai Genesis Coupe. They now are enjoying a 35 point lead over the second place team of Karl Chicca and Beau Borders who drive the Hawk/Competition Clutch BMW M3. Only 11 points behind are two drivers that are tied with 508 points, Jason Alexandridis driving the TNI Racing Mazdaspeed 3 and Mario Lento driving the Hawk/Competition Clutch Mitsubishi Lancer.
So the championship will be Hyundai vs. BMW vs. Mazda vs. Mitsubishi. The competition will be fierce as this will be their last chance to win what they started back in early spring in Southern California. The Sheehan/Arsham duo have a small margin which means that if they finish in the top 10, the championship is theirs. The key word here is “finish” which means there can be no crashes or mechanical problems. “Every member of the team realizes that we have worked so hard all year long with this goal in mind and we need to finish the job,” said Gary Sheehan.
Round seven of the USTCC starts on Saturday November 15 with the main race on Sunday November 16. The race can be seen on finaldrive.tv.
