May 9, 2005: C&R Promotions - Speed TV reported Sunday that construction began on the Inaugural San Jose Grand Prix Downtown Street Circuit. The new track layout, which was relocated in the last month from around the HP Pavilion to around the McEnery Convention Center down town, is larger at 1.6 miles, has a longer straightaway, and more importantly longer braking zones than the original layout! Included in the 11-turn circuit is a hairpin corner, similar to that at the Long Beach Grand Prix. The Speed TV report also stated that the Hankook United States Touring Car Championship cars would be sharing the new event with the Champ Car as a key support series. Autoracing1.com has reported that radio spots have already been heard in the San Jose area promoting the event. This race shaping up to be the most publicized in U.S. Touring Car Championship history. For further information please call C&R Promotions (805) 557-0080.
