MC Racing Keeps Podium Streak Going

July 21, 2024 (Sonoma, CA) – Michael McColligan kept his impressive podium streak going with a second-place finish in round 4 of the Hankook United States Touring Car Championship at Sonoma Raceway.

The MC Racing Honda Civic was looking good debuting a new Irish themed livery for Round 4 at Sonoma Raceway. Unfortunately, team driver Michael McColligan missed a critical practice as the car would not start on the grid. The team made some repairs but struck difficulty again in qualifying as the oil temperature warning came on just as McColligan started his first flying lap and had to abort and head to the pits. Fortunately, this was traced to a sensor problem but meant McColligan would start from the back of the pack for the feature race. At the drop of the green flag McColligan got a great standing start and was able to quickly move into a crazy four-way battle for the lead. After a few laps the Penncraft BMW was able to build a gap and McColligan continued in a three-way battle for second until he was able to make a strong move in turn 11 and secure second place. McColligan then went into qualifying mode setting the fast lap of the race chasing down the leader. He got to the bumper of the leader at the white flag but could not find an opening bringing the Civic home in a strong second place. ”That was one of the closest and most intense battles I have been in a while with everybody driving strong. Considering some of the issues we had I am extremely happy with the second-place finish!”, said a smiling McColligan after a sip of podium champagne. MC Racing looks to keep the momentum and points lead going into the two-hour race at round 5!
