MC Racing Starts 2021 with a Solid Finish
April 10, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV) – Michael McColligan, driving the #36 MC Racing Mazda RX8 kicked-off 2021 with a fourth place finish in Round 1 of the Hankook Tires United States Touring Car Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The offseason went by quick and the MC Racing Team was still working on their Mazda RX8 upgrades but entered Round 1 with a positive outlook for the new season. Team driver Michael McColligan built speed throughout practice and had an optimistic outlook going into qualifying with a fresh set of Hankook slicks. Unfortunately he was not able to get a clear lap placing the car P5 for the standing race start. “We got really unlucky with the traffic when my tires were at their best and I was not able to lay down a clean lap”, stated McColligan. At the drop of the green flag McColligan got a great launch and was able to make an aggressive move up the inside of one of the BMW’s into turn 1 to move up to fourth. The pair swapped positions a few times before McColligan solidified the position and started chasing down the front pack. McColligan began running faster and faster lap times steadily reeling in the third place Civic. He pushed hard but ran out of time bringing the car home in fourth. “We have to qualify better and stay in touch with the front pack at the race start if we want to consistently challenge for the podium. Now that we know what to work on, we will be better at the next race”, summed up McColligan. The team will not have long to wait as Round 2 is only two weeks away.
